Devon’s housing stock is varied. Air source heat pumps work well in well-insulated, sympathetically-designed retrofits but struggle if the fabric improvements haven’t happened first. Gas remains a solid choice where a connection exists. Biomass can suit larger rural properties with the storage to support it. Electric works better in smaller, well-insulated dwellings than in older, draughty ones.

The right choice depends on the building, the fuel availability and the lifestyle of the occupants. A heating system specified without that conversation is a gamble.
