MCIOB stands for Member of the Chartered Institute of Building — the professional body for construction management. Membership requires demonstrable management experience, CPD and adherence to a code of conduct. It’s the standard credential for a Project Manager or construction-focused QS.

MRICS is Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors — the dominant body for chartered surveyors, including QS, valuation and building surveying. ICES is the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors — the QS body for civils and infrastructure work.

For domestic projects in Devon, MCIOB and RICS are the most relevant. Both carry meaningful standards. Neither is mandatory, but on a six-figure project the credential is a reasonable filter.
