For Cawsand and Kingsand projects we routinely specify marine-grade stainless ironmongery, suitable coatings on external timber, and finishes that the building can keep looking after. The first cost is a bit higher than mainland equivalents; the lifecycle cost is dramatically lower.

If you’re commissioning works on a property anywhere within salt-spray range, a coastal-aware specification is worth pushing for at design stage. Retrofitting it after handover always costs more.
